About Your Teacher
Hello and Welcome families,
My name is Michaela Connolly and I am very excited about the up coming school year at St. John Paul II. I wanted to take this time and tell you all a little about myself. I have always known that I have wanted to be a teacher and have been working my whole life to achieve my goal. I started babysitting when I was 12, by the time I was 15 I had been working for a family caring for three boys, one with behavioral problems. I used this as an opportunity to learn how to adapt to different learning styles. While studying at Loyola University, I majored in English and minored in Secondary Education, all while maintaining a full time job. As part of Loyola’s Secondary Education program I had the privilege of interning at three different schools, each at different grade levels. I believe that the classes I took, the time I have spent in the classroom, and my work with young children will give me an advantage as a teacher. After moving back to Scituate in February of 2014, I started substituting for the Hingham Public schools and took on a paraprofessional job at Hingham Middle School in May of 2014. I continued my work with the middle school children in Hingham’s ESY Summer program, helping students stay focused during the summer months. At the end of the Summer I was hired at East Elementary School in Hingham as a Para educator. After a few short weeks I was asked to step in as a Fourth Grade Classroom teacher when the teacher had to take an unexpected leave of absence. This was an amazing experience for me. Everyday when I stood up in front of my students I knew it was where I belonged. Creating lesson plans, engaging the students and even communicating with parents all came naturally to me. Everyday I was reminded why I wanted to teach in the first place.
